Dr. M. Hamed Farooqi
Director, Consultant Endocrinologist, Dubai Diabetes Center
Dr. Farooqi received his Internal Medicine training in New York and then did his Endocrine Fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He is US Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and is a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology, the American College of Physicians and the Royal Society of Public Health, UK.
His passions include teaching. He has won multiple awards for teaching while serving as an Associate Professor at the University of South Florida.
At present, he is a faculty member of the Harvard Medical School in Boston and the Dubai Medical College.
He was recognized by the ADA and the NCQA for the quality of care he provides. Initially he joined the Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate in Florida and worked there for a decade as the Medical Director. He established and operated a highly successful Joslin affiliate in Safety Harbor, Florida. In 2008, he lead the Joslin team that set up the state of the art Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate at Dubai Health Authority, now renamed as the Dubai Diabetes Center, one of the largest in the public sector in the UAE.
Dr. Farooqi has been an invited speaker at various Health Forums internationally and has helped design global diabetes education programs for primary care physicians. He has published many articles and serves as a reviewer or member of the editorial board of various international journals.
Dr. Ahmed A.K. Hassoun
Chairman of Research & Medical Education, Consultant Endocrinologist, DDC
Dr. Hassoun completed his fellowship in Endocrinology at the Mayo Clinic, and then joined the Endocrinology staff at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Hassoun is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Endocrinology. In addition, he is an active member of: American Diabetes Association (ADA), the Endocrine Society (ES), and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE). His previous appointments included: Chief of Endocrinology, Clinical Assistant Professor at Wayne State University in Michigan and the faculty of Medicine, UAE University.
He has been actively participating in developing and updating the UAE Diabetes guidelines, educating & training doctors & other healthcare providers, as well as conducting research in the field of diabetes & endocrinology. He also published more than 40 papers and abstracts in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Hassoun is a co-founder of the monthly UAE Endocrinology meetings (Endocrine club), and since 2006 he has been the active organizer/moderator of these meetings encouraging up-to-date dialogue amongst endocrinologists in UAE.
In addition, he was the founding and 1st President of the AACE GC, which was established in 2012. His idea of establishing endocrine review course by AACE GC was welcomed and accepted by the board. He co-directed and chaired the 1st, in 2015, AACE Gulf Endocrine Review Course and co-directed the course in 2016. This course are being done yearly since and been rated highly by the junior and senior endocrinologists in our Gulf and MENA region.
Ms. Zeina Younes
Clinical Dietitian, Dubai Diabetes Center
Zeina graduated with a B.Sc in Biology and a B.Sc in Nutrition & Dietetics from the American University of Beirut in 2005 and 2007, respectively. In order to further enhance her knowledge in the field of Nutrition, Zeina went on to pursue a Masters degree in Nutrition & Dietetics at the American University of Beirut. Alongside her Masters, Zeina did a 6 months training at a reputable hospital in Beirut where she dealt with various medical conditions and learned the importance of nutrition in improving patient health and well-being.
Upon completing her Masters degree in the year 2010, Zeina began work as a clinical researcher in the American University of Beirut Medical Center where she focused on patients dealing specifically with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. She also began lecturing in a reputable university in Beirut, educating undergraduate students about various topics in the field of Nutrition & Dietetics.
Zeina Younes is currently a clinical diabetes dietitian specialist at the Dubai Diabetes Center, Dubai Health Authority, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Her main focus is on pediatric and adolescent diabetes management, whereby her role is in the nutritional education and management of diabetes in school and at home. She also provides nutritional education to patients with gestational diabetes and to adult patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
Ms. Diana El Jundi
Clinical Diabetes Specialist, DDC
Ms. Diana El Jundi achieved her Bachelor degree of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from the American University of Beirut (2003). This was further followed by a Master’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics as well as RD Credentialing & Internship from McGill University (2007). She began perusing her career as a Registered Dietitian at Humber River Regional Hospital in Toronto early 2008 in the areas of Intensive Care Unit and Cardiology for one year and the Bariatric Clinic for another four years. She then relocated to United Arab Emirates (2013) where she currently works as a Clinical Diabetes Specialist at Dubai Diabetes Center; her focus at the center mainly being educating patients, both Type I and II as well as Gestational on meal discipline, carbohydrate counting and promoting healthy lifestyle.
Mr Moataz Abdulla Hamad
After getting his bachelor degree in physical therapy and rehabilitation from Miser University for science &Technology in Egypt, Moataz started his career path by working in the Egyptian ministry of public health hospitals then he got more specialized in rehabilitation and prevention of sports injuries by working in FCMasr football club and Heliopolis club, After moving to UAE he started working at Al Wasl sports club, then working with UAE Volleyball national team before joining the Dubai Diabetes Center.
Dr. Noor M. Janahi
Consultant Podiatrist, Dubai London Clinic & Hospital
Dr. Noor Janahi is a consultant Podiatrist who was trained in the Kingdom of Bahrain. She was the first Bahraini to achieve this degree and the first Bahraini to practice the profession of Podiatry in the country. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Podiatry from Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh in 2005, Dr. Noor has great experience in diagnosing, treating, operating upon and prescribing for a wide range of foot and ankle pathologies. Her main interests are managing sports-related foot injuries using the latest available techniques such as Ultrasound guided injections, and prevention and management of disease in high risk patients such as, patients with diabetic foot disease. Dr. Noor is fully registered with the Health and Care Professions Council within the UK, and is licensed to practice podiatry in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. Dr. Noor has been a member of the London Foot Clinic since 2013 where she focused on expanding the services of the clinic to the Middle East region starting from Bahrain and the United Arabs Emirates, in order to provide such treatments for the Podiatry patients and to further promote and advance the profession within the Middle East.
Ms. Alaa AbuAli
Psychology Practitioner, DDC
Alaa AbuAli is a Psychology Practitioner who completed her studies in Clinical Counseling from Montclair State University (New Jersey, USA) and in Psychology from American University (Washington DC, USA).
She has completed intensive and specialized training at Family Service League in New Jersey for a range of individuals including families and couples, anger management as well as providing counselling to survivors of domestic violence. Additionally, she has led group counselling sessions for adolescents with a specific focus on self-esteem, bullying and positive coping skills.
She has worked previously as a Psychology Practitioner at Rashid Hospital, during which she provided inpatient and outpatient psychological support for patients and their families. She has also worked in American Center for Psychiatry and Neurology as a counselor and provided employee assistant support by helping clients of various corporate companies deal with issues such as stress management, anxiety, healthy communication in the work place and relationship concerns.
She currently works at Dubai Diabetes Center since 2017 as a psychology Practitioner providing support to patients and their families. At Dubai Diabetes Center Mrs. Abuali is an integral part of a dynamic team approach in treating diabetes. She provides individual support, family therapy/psychoeducation, group counseling and assists patients in developing healthier self-management and diabetes control through behavioral and supportive interventions.
Mrs. Abuali also has intensive experience in conducting workshops related to mindfulness and stress management.
